The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
