Adam Wharton His maiden beginning for his country. Somewhat careless on the ball but his inswinging deliveries were a threat. An effective game manager available to the coach to have versus defensive opponents. Cautioned after a reckless foul. 6

Declan Rice Deliveries from corners and set-plays caused problems. Was given license to move down the left flank but was in an offside position as the pass came in front of goal. Given a merited substitution after an hour. 6/10

The star midfielder Functioned in a high position on the right and contributed with defensive duties. Demonstrated glimpses of brilliance and dragged a shot over. Replaced late on by a teammate, his rival, after receiving a caution. 7

Jarrod Bowen Had the team's clearest opportunity before halftime, his strike excellently kept out by Thomas Strakosha. With a teammate hanging back, he had to offer an outlet down the right side yet his deliveries into the box were hit and miss. Taken off late in the match. Six

The captain The match-winner scoring seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth finishes in an England shirt. The first a typical opportunist's goal and his next a classy finish with his head following a clever run away from the opposition. Aged 32, he continues to improve and England stand a real opportunity in the upcoming tournament when he's in the team. Eight

The attacker Had difficulty to influence play from the left. Was presented with a decent opportunity when set up from a teammate but Strakosha made the save. His replacement made much more of an impact after coming on. 5
