Man That Touched Ariana Grande during Red Carpet Event Banned from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted across a fence and touched celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and prohibited from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, aged 26, was given a sentence to nine days in prison for being a public nuisance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the country's border control told news outlets.
He forced his way beyond security and charged at the performer and artist, who was participating in the Asian premier for the musical adaptation on 13 November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
The individual has a record of disrupting concerts and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at the pop star's Australian show in June this year.
The incident sparked outrage in Singapore, with numerous people claiming he of causing further distress to the star.
The singer has discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a explosive incident at her concert in the English city in May 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals and injured hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the film's premiere multiple times, according to regional reports.
He then made a second attempt to breach security. Security staff stopped him and pinned him down.
The man subsequently shared recordings appreciating the celebrity for permitting his access and said he was "released."
Police took him into custody the next day and brought charges against him with causing a disturbance, to which he confessed.
The District Judge the judicial official was referenced by a news outlet as stating that he was looking for publicity, adding that he was incorrect to think he would not experience repercussions.
The singer has not addressed the case.
Cynthia Erivo spoke about the incident to NBC, stating that she "simply desired to make sure my colleague was safe."
"I think he didn't mean us danger, but you can't predict with those things, and I wanted to make sure that she was alright. That was my initial reaction," she stated.
