The celebrated UK star Helen Mirren, previously holder of an Academy Award, multiple Bafta awards, three Golden Globes, five Emmys, and a Tony, is poised to earn an additional esteemed prize to her trophy case: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe career honor.

Ceremony Details

Dame Helen, octogenarian, formerly given a damehood back in 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in the year 2014, will receive this honor in a ceremony January 8, just prior to the main Golden Globes take place, within a ceremony promoted by the Globes as the “Golden Eve”.

Also part of the event will be the bestowal of the Globes’ Carol Burnett award for television achievement, the honoree for which remains unannounced. Last year’s winners included Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Dame Helen represents an unstoppable talent, and her career is truly extraordinary,” stated the organization’s president, president of the Golden Globes. “Her transcendent performances and devotion to her art constantly motivate countless performers and viewers as well. We are deeply honored to award her the DeMille prize.”

Career Highlights

Helen Mirren gained prominence during the seventies through significant parts on stage in London’s theater district and with the RSC and in cinematic works such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her starring role in detective drama Prime Suspect expanded her audience even more. Other important films include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her portrayal as the Queen in 2006 film The Queen, a part she returned to in 2013 in The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play regarding the encounters with the Queen and prime minister the former PM, a performance for which she received a Tony Award during 2015.

Recent and Upcoming Projects

• More recent films feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, for which she provided narration.
• Mirren’s turn in the streaming adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has received positive reviews and awards buzz is increasing about her portrayal as a dying matriarch in Winslet’s first directing effort, Goodbye June.
• Next year, Mirren will be seen portraying Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.

Globes nominations will be declared on 8 December, including Anderson’s One Battle After Another, the movie from Chloé Zhao Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
