“It was regrettable. That was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was brimming with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the signal was completely accidental, happening amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the wrong finger,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

This is not the initial instance an NFL owner has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases include:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at spectators in early 2024.
